What is Geothermal?

To put it simply, a geothermal system is the most efficient way to heat and cool any home in the NC Triangle and beyond. This system uses electricity to extract heat from the ground in the winter to heat your home, and takes heat out of your home in the summer and dissipates it in the ground in order to effectively cool your home.  Currently these systems also qualify for 30% uncapped federal income tax credits in addition to 35% N.C. State income tax credits!

Components of a Geothermal System in Garner, Raleigh & Beyond

The earth loop is the most important factor in any geothermal system. When properly designed, these systems will outperform any other heating and cooling system available. Bowman Mechanical Services has been putting geothermal systems in homes in Raleigh, Garner and throughout the Triangle for more than 30 years. This means that we understand the proper techniques for designing loops and systems, and integrating the system seamlessly into homes of all types and sizes. We utilize our vast range of experience to design all of our geothermal systems, which outperform equipment manufacturers’ specifications.

Equipment Selection for a Geothermal Heating & Cooling System

The actual heat pump that houses the compressor, blower and controls to move heat comes in different sizes and configurations to accommodate all projects. These fit nicely in new construction homes, as well as existing home modifications. If you are looking to include radiant floor heating in your home in the Triangle, we have geothermal heat pumps that produce hot water on demand.

Available Accessories for Your Geothermal Heat Pump

As with any of our equipment, Bowman Mechanical Services can add features to enhance your geothermal system in Raleigh or Garner. One item that is unique to the geothermal heat pump is the HRP (heat recovery package) or desuperheater that provides preheated water for your water heater. You can also add any indoor air quality features.

To learn more about how geothermal systems work, check out brochures from ClimateMaster, Geostar  and Bosch.

Bowman Mechanical Services offers energy-efficient geothermal system installation and repairs in Raleigh, Garner, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Clayton, and throughout the NC Triangle.

Am I a candidate for a geothermal system?

A large percentage of our systems are vertical closed loops. Each district has setbacks and they are not as restrictive as one may think. Notice the size of the front yard below and how the yard looks afterward.

Geothermal Advantages

You have heard about geothermal but not sure what the advantages could be, let's look

heat-pump-efficiency
  • Operation costs are the lowest of any available fuel source
  • Longest life of any equipment (55 year warranty on loop) 25-25 average on equipment
  • No outdoor equipment (no coil cleaning, no noise, no eye sore, no chance of theft, etc)
  • Low maintanance (no extreme operating conditions, no heat exchangers, no igniters etc)
  • Best heating (longer run of 100o+ at registers, no "cold heat", no defrost cycle, resistive heat strips usually not neaded except in poorly insulated homes)
  • Best cooling (colder air coils provide better dehumidification)
  • Preheats hot water
  • Best fit for home (no flue pipes, no outdoor units, no makeup air, no gas meter, no gas tank, simply tie into duct)
  • Better resale value for home (compare utility savings with comps and multiply by 10 years)
